Though all needed “reservation” tools exist today, not surprisingly, procrastination remains the biggest obstacle to accurate family histories. To break this paralyzing cycle that haunt most families and paralyzes progress, I offer these tips:

KICK-STARTING THE PROCESS

  1. Accept the fact that, regarding family-histories, what’s of value to us now may seem irrelevant to our distant descendants.
  2. Start very small, prioritizing and selecting only a few things you’re certain will be precious to imaginary future generations, and get it digitized immediately (see instructions). This may sound your biggest hurdle. Lengthy reminiscing could lead to chronic indecisiveness, slow this initial challenge and impede future willingness to fulfill your family obligation. Selecting and digitizing larger quantites is best left for future rounds.
  3. with few exceptions, selecting frmo the oldest will be the easiest, as most vintage images are rare, usually people, posed and formal, rather than the [etc.]
